So, during a discussion today with a reputable cloud services architect, he described a meeting with a customer CIO who operates a global distribution network. The meeting was focused on their desire to “move to the cloud”.
That customer, as of Jan 2016, owns more than 100 data centers in 18 countries, comprising thousands of virtual servers, atop hundreds of physical servers and blades.
The CIO said to him, “Three years from now, I don’t want to own or operate a single data center. It will all be moved to the cloud.” After further clarification, he confirmed that those data centers would not be sold or acquired, but “closed”.
